What is SR22?

In order to remove a suspension placed by the California Department of Motor Vehicles on your Drivers License, an SR22 Filing is required. An SR22 is a document issued by an Insurance Company. This document from the Insurance company is a guarantee to the California Department of Motor Vehicles that you have obtained the California required minimum liability coverage. The insurance company will notify the DMV if the insurance coverage should lapse. At this point, your License Status will return to Suspended.

Who Needs An SR22?

An individual whose license is under suspension by the California Department of Motor Vehicles requires an SR22 Filing to reinstate their license. A California Drivers License can be suspended for any of the following reasons: drunk driving; exceeding the limit of moving violations within a year that the law permits;  unpaid traffic fines or parking violations; uninsured accidents; violating DMV regulations.

How do I get an SR22?

You must obtain minimum liability coverage on all vehicles that are registered to you, both operational and non-operational. If you don't own a motor vehicle, you are required to obtain "non-owners" liability coverage.

How long do I need an SR22 Filing?

The minimum SR22 Filing period is three years. This can be longer, based on the severity of your situation.

What process is involved in reinstating my license?

  • Contact the DMV at 916 657-6677 to determine if your License is able to be reinstated at this time, and any DMV fees that are required to reactivate your Drivers License. In most cases, this is a $10.00 reinstatement fee, but you will need to resolve any parking and moving violation judgments or fines.

  • We'll need a current DMV Driving Record (MVR) Report. The accuracy provided by this report is crucial in obtaining the best pricing for your SR22 and vehicle coverage.  In fact, most Insurance Companies require this as a condition of the issuance of coverage. We can generate this report in our offices for a $7.00 fee.

  • Once your transaction is complete, we can issue your SR22 Filing and Vehicle Coverage the same day if you qualify.
